The Heart of Rupich Ranch
Real talk: We entered this venture in order to keep our agricultural exemption, but never imagined we would fall in love with it.
Â
We started out with two heifers, Wilma and Betty, bottle babies from Pandarosa Minis and highland crosses. Morning and evening, I was out there feeding and brushing them, and somewhere in that routine, it became therapy. It became a way to step away from the office work load, move away from the must-dos into the want-tos. And, when they began to talk to me in sweet mini-moos and head rubs against my thigh, it became a passion.
Â
Then came Bam Bam and Pebbles - the bonded pair that rarely are seen one without the other close by, Bonnie and Clyde, Rock - the sweetest bull I have ever seen or known, & Ginger and Fred. Everyone of them became known to me - Wilma so sweet she will walk away from the feed bucket rather than push another cow aside, Betty so demanding with her loud bellows for grain, but will stand for hours for brushing and ignore the feed bucket. Bonnie, a bit nervous, tiny but mighty; and sweet, sweet Rock who will share with everyone and just wants hugs and love! Each one of them taught me more and gave more than I ever gave to them. They became my passion. It’s going on 5 years now. We’ve had two calving seasons and the mommas have let us love on their babies from day one. The trust is real. And this is what we want to share with y’all - the love and passion for another living creature that fills your soul.Â
